University of Ghana Business School’s (UGBS) Department of Finance, on Friday, January 30th, 2015, held an information session aimed at publicizing its MSc. Development Finance programme at the premises of the British Council.
Facilitating the event which drew media personnel, students and prospective students, Dr. Simon Harvey, Coordinator of the Programme, provided a brief background of UGBS and its six departments, before elaborating on the programme.
According to him, the MSc. Development Finance programme, a specialist interdisciplinary degree, is a collaboration between the Department of Finance and Africagrowth Institute (AGI) in South Africa and aims to provide vital support structures in financial management applications across all sectors of emerging markets.
To close a worrying skill gap in issues of development finance and develop the discipline which is still in its infancy, Dr. Harvey expounded further that the programme has been designed to, among others, provide an appreciation of the challenges with respect to development finance in developing and emerging economies.
The programme’s teaching style combines a number of innovative approaches to complement the traditional lecture on either a one year full-time or 2 years flexible part-time, he said.
Dr. Harvey outlined the programme’s entry and graduation requirements, courses, its targets, which comprise entrepreneurs and development finance practitioners, and employment prospects.
Fielding questions from participants, he answered queries such as how to apply to the programme which was particularly relevant since post-graduate applications to the University of Ghana is in progress.
Present at the event and also fielding questions was Dr. Olivia Anku-Tsede, Coordinator of UGBS’s Organisation and Human Resource Department’s MA Management & Administration programme. Others included Dr. Godfrey Bokpin, Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Finance and Dr. Kobby Mensah, Coordinator of UGBS’s Marketing and Communications Unit.
