As part of the Corporate and Business Festival, the Business House Junior Common Room (BHJCR) of the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS), on the 29th of September 2017, organised a blood donation exercise at the UGBS foyer.
According to the organisers, blood transfusions take place daily and this saves lives of many people in Ghana and the world as a whole. Donating blood is good for the health of donors as well as recipients. It helps lower the risk of hemochromatosis, prevent heart and liver ailments caused by iron overload as well as boost the production of new blood cells and generally promote good health in donors.
The BHJCR President, Mr. Vincent Kombat stated that the blood donation exercise formed part of the activities for the Corporate and Business Festival and its main objective he noted was to give back to society.
The donation exercise was conducted by a medical team from Korle-Bu National Blood Service led by a Senior Blood Donor, Miss Joyce Oppong Adu.
Interacting with her, Miss Adu stated that the core objective behind the exercise was to save lives. She also stated that due to severe shortage of blood at the blood bank, it is necessary for the blood donation exercise to come on.
Donors of the exercise had their weight, blood pressure and haemoglobin level checked. They were also educated on the importance of healthy living. They were refreshed and also presented with some souvenirs (exercise books, pens).
