Overview
There is no doubt that information and communication technologies (ICTs) have become a significant factor for achieving organizational efficiency and effectiveness. This has created a very high, global demand for professionals with the expertise to align ICTs with business strategies to achieve corporate objectives. Academics are also in high demand to research into ICT design, development and implementation in both the private and the public sector. With this underpinning its mission, the Department of Operations & Management Information Systems (OMIS) is founded on the interaction between the ICT and Management disciplines. The primary goal is to equip graduates with the philosophical, critical and analytical skills for researching, teaching and developing sustainable solutions to the opportunities and challenges in adopting, implementing and using information systems in the local communities, firms, institutions in Ghana, Africa and beyond.
The Department of OMIS is essentially a postgraduate department, offering courses in MBA in Management Information Systems, MPhil in Management Information Systems, MPhil in Operations Management, MSc. in Management Information Systems and PhD Information Systems. The department also hosts some core courses for both undergraduate and graduate programmes of the University of Ghana Business School.

The Community of Scholars theme reflects our desire to build a diverse, intellectual community engaged in the pursuit of scholarship and learning, and our dedication to our students. The Culture of Excellence theme reflects our desire to achieve excellence in everything we do as an academic department, and use multidisciplinary approaches in responding to real-world problems.
Mission
The supporting mission for the vision is as follows:
The Department, as a collegial and supportive work environment, develops and delivers innovative programmes and research projects which provide interdisciplinary skills and competences to students. The Department engages faculty and students in cutting edge industry-sponsored research which addresses real-world problems. The Department also encourages the growth of faculty, staff and students by seeking opportunities for leadership in scholarship, professions, and society.
We would jointly refer to these themes regularly when we speak with faculty, staff, current students, potential students, alumni, and visitors to the department. This vision and mission will be pursued through active consultation and engagement with students, alumni and industry.
